Understanding discrimination law is essential for creating respectful, safe and inclusive workplace cultures across Tasmanian businesses and organisations.
Effective anti-discrimination strategies are also key to reducing risk and ensuring compliance with your business or organisation’s legal obligations.
This half-day session provides a practical overview of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1998 (Tas), from protected attributes and rights and responsibilities to prohibited conduct and how discrimination can occur in real‑world workplace situations.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Define discrimination and explain how it can appear in different workplace contexts
- Outline the rights and responsibilities of employees and employers
- Describe forms of prohibited conduct, including harassment, bullying, sexual harassment, victimisation and incitement to hatred
- Explain the role and functions of the Office of the Anti-Discrimination Commissioner and the purpose of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1998 (Tas)

Ange Bain is a Training and Education Officer with the Office of the Anti-Discrimination Commissioner, delivering practical, engaging training to corporate and government organisations across Tasmania. With over 30 years of national experience in education and workforce development, Ange has worked across government, not-for-profit, and community services sectors. She specialises in making complex topics, such as Discrimination Law, workplace behaviour, and compliance, clear, relevant, and applicable to a range of environments. Passionate about inclusion and equity, Ange is committed to helping organisations create courteous, safe and diverse workplaces, where everyone can thrive.

Davan Ong is a Community Engagement and Education Officer at the Office of the Anti‑Discrimination Commissioner. In this role, he delivers free community education to schools, nonprofits, clubs, volunteer networks, and community groups, as well as tailored fee‑for‑service training for government departments, and corporate organisations. Davan brings extensive experience from the humanitarian sector, along with a diverse background in hospitality, community services, and international trade. He is committed to building inclusive, informed, and respectful communities through meaningful engagement and practical education.
