Delivery: Face-to-face | Duration: One day

Trauma is a natural response to an event that is beyond an individual’s capacity to cope, and while not everyone responds in the same way, the impacts can be all-encompassing, effecting a person’s physical, mental and social wellbeing.

More and more government, business and community services are learning about trauma to help inform the way they do business, and as individuals delivering these services, it is important that we understand the impact that we can have on others.

The first in a series of three one-day trauma-informed learning workshops, Introduction to Trauma will help you to begin understanding how and why people are affected by trauma, as well as why having an understanding of trauma is so important to the services you deliver.

During this workshop, you will get introduced to trauma and will then have the opportunity to continue building your awareness of why understanding trauma, and laying a trauma-informed lens on your processes can help to improve outcomes for yourself the business and the community.

What you will learn:

In this session, you will explore what trauma is, how it develops and what it does to a person living with trauma. Let’s go beyond the diagnostic criteria and talk about poly vagal theory, the relationship trauma has with epigenetics, the common impacts on a person’s brain and body and how that plays out in terms of behaviour, social skills, self-regulation and more.

What you will walk away with:
  • an awareness of trauma and just how prevalent it is
  • an awareness of the different ways trauma can develop and how it changes a person’s body and brain, behaviour, social skills, self-regulation and more
  • the opportunity to learn more and think about how trauma might show up in your workplace through colleagues, clients, stakeholders, and the way you work
  • an understanding of trauma through an intersectional lens
