Trauma informed practice

If you’ve already completed the Introduction to Trauma workshop, now is the time to continue your learning with Trauma-Informed Practice. This workshop will introduce you to the overarching principles of trauma-informed practice, while exploring several critical concepts in identifying and adapting to trauma related behaviour. Trauma-Informed Practice is encouraged for anyone whose work involves contact with customers, clients or employees who may be affected by trauma.

Meet the TTC team
Iris Goetzki
Meet Iris Goetzki, manager of the Tasmanian Training Consortium (TTC).

Iris joined TTC in October 2022.  A strong believer in the value of continuing professional learning, Iris has experienced first hand the benefits of investing in employee training through improved employee motivation, innovation and performance. 

‘I have always encouraged involvement in development opportunities to extend a person’s knowledge, expose them to different perspectives and ways of thinking and to build their skills for the workplace and for life,’ said Iris.

Iris believes the evidence is clear.  ‘There are numerous reputable studies that show that investing in training increases staff retention and satisfaction and that also demonstrate the linkages between targeted skill development and performance, particularly around change.

‘We often expect a lot from our people, at every level in an organisation.  In my view, this is made more reasonable and a productive culture is more likely when we invest in people to help them to continue to grow, adjust, to be better at their job and to excel,’ she said.  ‘It’s rewarding to see how new learning can help people flourish.’ 

Outside of work, Iris is a keen cook and enjoys exploring different cuisines and using fresh, seasonal produce grown on her 5-acre property.  As her name would suggest, Iris is also a lover of flowers and enjoys bringing the outside in. ‘There is rarely a time when vases full of flowers are not found throughout my home,’ she said. 
 
 
The Manager Essential Program
If you are a new or existing State Service supervisor, team leader or manager who has responsibility for the full range of management functions (people, budgets, program resources), you might be eligible for the Manager Essentials Program.

The Manager Essentials Program (MEP) is an internationally award-winning Tasmanian program designed to enhance the essential capabilities of all State Service managers.

Delivered over nine-months through an integrated learning pathway, MEP aims to equip managers with the skills to manage, support and develop people, lead teams, and prepare for future management roles.

The MEP gives you the opportunity to reflect on your own emotional intelligence skills and resilience  managing employees effectively and transforming your own and other employee working environment.

The program is endorsed by the Head of the State Service and all Heads of Departments as a commitment to developing current managers in the Tasmanian State Service.

Aboriginal Cultural Respect Training
All Tasmanian State Service (TSS) employees are invited to register for one of the Aboriginal Cultural Respect training sessions scheduled for Hobart, Launceston, and Ulverstone.

This training was developed as an action under the first TSS Aboriginal Employment Strategy in 2022, responding to the need for an accessible, consistent, quality controlled and culturally authentic Aboriginal training package for Tasmanian State Service employees.

The training remains a priority initiative in the new TSS Aboriginal Employment Strategy beyond 2024.

Nicole Smith has joined the Aboriginal Employment Strategy team and will be lead facilitator in delivering this training. Come and join Nicole, a strong Palawa woman, as she shares her knowledge of Tasmanian Aboriginal people and culture.  Hear firsthand stories from Tasmanian Aboriginal community members and families and other Aboriginal community members and together examine the impact that past and currently policies and practices had and continue to have on Tasmanian Aboriginal people.

Take this opportunity to explore new and different work practices that can assist you in engaging with Aboriginal people, building respectful Aboriginal partnerships, and creating culturally safe and respectful workplaces.
